How do I count down to a date on photos?

Set a start day or a target date, switch on D+N in the camera, then shoot.

How it works

Three ways to count.

  • D-Day

    D-day

D-day: the start day is D-Day, the next day is D+1.

Start on Monday: Monday is D-Day and Tuesday is D+1.

  • D+1

    D+1

Start at D+1: the start day is D+1, so day 100 is D+100.

    A 100-day challenge: today is D+1 and day 100 is D+100.

  • D-100

    Countdown

Count down to goal: the goal day is the start day plus your goal days, and the number counts down to it.

A 100-day goal: the number counts down to the goal day, then reads D-Day.

Why put the day count on a photo?

A counter tells you the trip is 12 days away. A photo from that day shows it. The start day itself is D-Day, the day after is D+1, and D-N counts down to a target date. Put the count on the picture and every photo says which day it was.

Countdown, first photo to last

Shoot a little each day before the trip and the number shrinks until it reads D-Day.

Each photo carries its own count, D-29 and D-Day here.

How do the numbered photos add up?

Thirty days before a trip, each photo counts down from D-29 to D-Day, and the whole run can go out as a single link.

What people ask about day counts on photos.

What does D+N mean?

D+N is the number of days since your start day, and D-N is the number of days left until a date ahead of you. dayLime works the number out and stamps it on the photo the moment you press the shutter.

Is dayLime free?

Yes. It is free to download and use, and a banner ad shows on the camera screen. Slots beyond the free ones are a one-time in-app purchase, not a subscription.

Who can see my shared record?

Only people who have your link. The address is a random 10-character code. For each share you choose original photos, blurred photos or numbers only, and you can turn the link off at any time.
