dayLime FAQ: common app questions, answered.
The dayLime FAQ gives short answers on setup, counting days, the camera, sharing and pricing, each checked against the app.
Install, supported devices, languages, permissions and your first count.
What is dayLime?
dayLime is a camera app for iPhone and Android. When you press the shutter it stamps the date, the time and a day count such as D+12 onto the photo, so every picture records which day of your project it was taken.
Which phones can run dayLime?
iPhone and iPad with iOS or iPadOS 17.6 or later, and Android phones with Android 12 or later.
Where can I download dayLime?
From the App Store on iPhone and iPad, or from Google Play on Android. The store buttons on this site open the official listings.
Do I need an account to use dayLime?
No. You can shoot and stamp photos without signing up. Sharing uses an anonymous token, not an email address or a password.
What permissions does dayLime ask for?
Camera access, which it needs to take photos. On iPhone it also asks for photo library access so finished photos can be saved and shown again in your stats. On Android it asks only for the camera, plus internet access for ads, sharing and purchases. Where the law requires it, an ad consent form appears first.
How do I start counting?
Open the D-Day settings of a slot, give it a name and a start date, then take a photo. The stamp on that first photo already shows your day count.
Which languages does it support?
dayLime is translated into 40 languages, including Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, Portuguese, Hindi and Indonesian.
Can I change the app language?
On iPhone, open Language in the app settings and choose System Default or a specific language; it applies after you restart the app. On Android, the app's languages are registered with the system, so you can pick one in your phone's per-app language settings.
Was dayLime called something else before?
Yes. dayLime was previously named D.LOG, SnapToday, StackToday and DayN (DayN was never released). All the names refer to the same app and the same company.
Is there a home screen widget?
Yes. The widget shows a slot's day count and, if you set a goal, your progress toward it. On iPhone it comes in small and medium sizes, and Android has a widget too.
Does dayLime work without internet?
Shooting and stamping happen on your device, so they work offline. The internet is used for ads, share links, purchases and app update checks.
How D+N and D-N work, and what to do with goals, missed days and new challenges.
What does D+N mean?
D+N is the number of days since your start day, and D-N is the number of days left until a date ahead of you. dayLime works the number out and stamps it on the photo the moment you press the shutter.
Is the start day D-Day or D+1?
You can choose. By default the start day reads D-Day and the next day D+1. Pick Start at D+1 under Display in the D-Day settings and the start day itself reads D+1, so a 100 day challenge begins at D+1. A third way, Count down to goal, counts the days left until your goal date.
How many days have we been together?
Make the day you got together the start day of a slot and shoot. The stamp shows how many days it has been. On the web day counter the start day is D-Day by default, as in the app, and the Start at D+1 option makes it day 1.
Can I count down to a date?
Yes. Set a date in the future, or choose the Days left option, and the stamp shows D-N, the days left, until it reaches D-Day on that date.
Can I change the start date later?
Yes. You can edit a slot's start date in the D-Day settings, and new photos use the new date. On iPhone, when you re-edit an older photo its count is worked out as of the day you took it, not today.
What happens if I miss a day?
Your day count keeps going, because it is calculated from the start date and not from how many photos you took. The separate streak on the stats screen stays alive through today if you shot yesterday, and it resets once a whole day passes with no photo.
How does dayLime count a day?
By calendar day in your phone's time zone. The count changes at midnight local time, not 24 hours after your last photo.
Can I set a goal such as D+100?
Yes. You can give a slot a goal in days. The home screen widget then shows how many days are left, and Goal achieved when you get there.
Can I count more than one thing at a time?
Yes. dayLime has five D-day slots, each with its own name, date and style, and you can show several of them on one photo. Two slots are free.
Can I start over without losing my old photos?
Yes. Choose New challenge in a slot: the current challenge finishes, counting starts from the new one, and your earlier records are kept separately as an archived challenge.
What does the stats screen show?
For each challenge it shows your current streak, your best streak, the days you shot this month and your total records, plus a calendar of the days you recorded.
How the web day calculator counts days since and until a date, and how it handles leap years, time zones and spans in weeks and months.
Does days since count the start day?
Both work. In the default mode the first day is D-Day and the next is D+1. Select Start at D+1 and day one is the start day itself, then day 2. If you started on 2026-09-27, then on 2026-10-04 it is D+7 by default, or day 8 with Start at D+1.
Does days until count today?
No. Days until counts the days from today to the target date, and the target date itself is not added. On 2026-10-04 the date 2026-10-14 is 10 days left.
What if the start date is in the future?
Days since shows how many days away that date is, because the start day has not come yet.
How long ago was a date?
Enter it under days until. If the date has passed, the result says how many days ago it was. If it is today, the result says that day is today.
Does the calculator handle leap years?
Yes. It counts calendar dates, so 29 February is counted in a leap year. From 2024-02-28 to 2024-03-01 is 2 days, and from 2023-02-28 to 2023-03-01 is 1 day.
Which time zone does the calculator use?
Your device's. Today's date is read from your device and only calendar dates are compared, not hours, so a daylight saving change cannot shift the count.
How are weeks and months worked out?
Weeks are whole seven-day weeks plus the leftover days. Months are whole calendar months plus the leftover days. Both use the time between the two dates, so 7 days after the start day is 1 week and 0 days.
How is the 100 day anniversary date worked out?
In the default reading D+100 is 100 days after your start day. Choose Start at D+1 and D+100 moves one day earlier, 99 days after the start. The start day reading above the list decides which one it uses.
When does a yearly anniversary fall?
It falls on the matching month and day one year later, two years later and so on. For a start day of 29 February, years without that date use 28 February.
Does it work for any number of days?
Yes. Type the days you want and the date appears, reading the start day the same way as the milestone list.
Does it show my next anniversary?
Yes. After you enter a date the list marks which milestones have passed and which are coming, and names the next one with the days left.
When is Christmas Day?
December 25. The countdown picks the next December 25 from your device's date.
What does the countdown show after Christmas?
On December 25 it says Christmas is today. From December 26 it counts down to next year's December 25.
When is New Year's Day?
January 1. The countdown picks the next January 1 from your device's date.
What happens to the count after New Year?
On January 1 it says New Year's Day is today. From January 2 it counts down to the next January 1.
Choose a stamp style, set the photo ratio, use ghost mode, and save or edit your shots.
Can I change the stamp shape?
Yes. Choose a label shape, color, font and photo ratio, and the stamp changes with them. The shapes are plain text with no frame, a verify badge, a flip counter, camera brackets, a seal stamp and a sticky note.
Can I change the stamp color?
Yes. Choose white, lime or lemon, or pick any custom color from the palette. White is the default.
Which fonts can the stamp use?
Six number fonts: Space Grotesk, Archivo, Sora, Caveat, Space Mono and Fraunces. You can also set the size and turn bold, italic and underline on or off, separately for each slot.
Which photo ratios can I shoot in?
1:1, 4:5, 3:4 and 9:16. The default is 4:5.
What is ghost mode?
Ghost mode lays your most recent photo from the same slot over the live camera as a see-through guide, so you can line up the same framing. It is a preview only and is not saved into your photo. The overlay starts at 40 percent opacity and has a slider.
Can I move the stamp on the photo?
Yes. Drag a stamp anywhere on the camera screen to place it, and dayLime remembers the position for the next shot. You can also move stamps when you edit a photo afterwards.
Where are my finished photos saved?
On iPhone, in your Photos library. On Android, in the Pictures/StackToday folder of your gallery. The saved image already has the stamp on it.
Can I add a date to a photo I already took?
No. dayLime adds the date only when the shutter is pressed, so each photo is a real-time record and nothing is backdated. Photos already in your gallery are left as they are.
Where are my photos and records stored?
Photos are stored on your device. Creating a share link uploads one card image and your summary numbers to the server. A link you turn off stops working. After a link expires, its uploaded card image is removed during scheduled cleanup.
Can I hide the date and time?
Yes. The clock is its own button on the camera screen, so you can switch it off and shoot without it. In its settings you can pick a date style and a 12-hour or 24-hour time.
Can I edit a photo after shooting?
Yes, photos you took in dayLime can be reopened to move or switch off stamps, change their style, apply a filter and fine-tune the picture, with undo and redo. Saving adds the edited photo to your library.
Share links, what viewers see, privacy levels and how long a link stays public.
Who can see my shared record?
Only people who have your link. The address is a random 10-character code. For each share you choose original photos, blurred photos or numbers only, and you can turn the link off at any time.
How do I share my record?
Tap Share, choose what viewers see and how long the link stays public, then tap Create Link and copy it. Anyone with the link opens a web page, with no app or account needed.
What does a shared link show?
Your streak, photo count, average shutter time and fill rate, a weekly rhythm chart, and a card of your photos as a collage or calendar, depending on what you chose. The slot name appears as the title.
What are the three sharing levels?
Show Photo shares the photos as they are, Blur Photo blurs them, and Numbers Only keeps photo pixels out of the card entirely.
How long does a shared link stay public?
You choose 1 day, 1 week, 30 days or no expiry, and the default is 1 day. When the time is up, the link shows an expired notice.
Can I turn a share link off?
Yes, at any time with the public switch in the share sheet. Turning it off removes the shared link and queues its uploaded card image for deletion. Image cleanup may take a short time; sharing again creates a new link.
What happens to the data when a link expires?
The link stops opening right away. Its uploaded card image becomes eligible for scheduled cleanup 24 hours after expiry. Links with no expiry remain until you turn them off, which removes the link and queues its image for deletion.
Can I share as a collage or a calendar?
Yes. The share sheet has a Format choice between Collage and Calendar.
Can I make a time-lapse video?
Yes. Time-lapse turns your photos from different days into a video, saved to Photos on iPhone and to the Movies folder on Android. You need photos from at least 2 days.
What gets uploaded when I share?
One card image built from your record, plus summary numbers such as your streak and weekly pattern, and the slot name. Your photo library is not uploaded. With numbers only, the card contains no photo pixels.
What is free, how extra slots work, ads, restoring purchases and a new phone.
Is dayLime free?
Yes. It is free to download and use, and a banner ad shows on the camera screen. Slots beyond the free ones are a one-time in-app purchase, not a subscription.
How many slots are free?
Two D-day slots are free forever, along with the clock stamp. dayLime has five D-day slots in all, and the other three are paid.
How do I get more slots?
Slots 3, 4 and 5 unlock with in-app purchases, one at a time or in a bundle (slots 3 to 5, or slots 4 and 5 together). They unlock in order, so slot 4 needs slot 3 first.
Is it a subscription?
No. The three extra slots are one-time purchases that you keep, with no recurring charge.
How much do extra slots cost?
Prices differ from country to country. The store shows the price in your own currency before you buy.
Are there ads?
One small banner ad stays at the bottom of the camera screen. Buying slots does not remove it.
Why does dayLime ask about ad consent?
In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, a consent form appears before ads load, and only there. If you decline personalized ads you can still see non-personalized ones. On iPhone, Apple's tracking prompt may appear as well.
How do I restore my purchases?
Open the slot purchase screen and tap Restore Purchases. dayLime also re-checks your purchases with the store when it starts, so they normally come back by themselves.
What happens to my records, photos and purchases on a new phone?
On iPhone, dayLime keeps your records and thumbnails in the app's Documents folder and does not exclude them from backup, so restoring from an iPhone backup brings them back, and finished photos stay in the library. On Android, Auto Backup restores your slot settings and shot records but not the photo images, which stay in your gallery. Purchases come back with Restore Purchases, because they belong to your Apple ID or Google account.
Which features cost money?
Only extra D-day slots (3 to 5). The app has no purchase check on the camera, ratios, fonts and colors, ghost mode, editing, sharing or time-lapse.
What happens if a purchase is refunded?
dayLime treats the store's purchase record as the source of truth. If the store refunds or revokes a purchase, the slot lock follows that record the next time dayLime syncs with the store.
